Tattoo Parlors – How Time Has Effected This Establishment In a Positive Way

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

Tattoo parlors have come a long way in the past thirty years. At one point in time the only place you could get a tattoo was in a less than desirable dive or in prison. Tattoos were not as mainstream as they are now. Cultural values and norms have changed significantly and now tattoos are not just for gangs, bikers or criminals. People of all walks of life are going under the needle to transform their skin from a blank canvas to a living work of art.

When deciding to get a tattoo there are a couple of things to keep in mind. The first is deciding on a tattoo which reflects personal taste and desire yet is not a fad. Remember: fads and trends come and go. The tattoo is there for life unless it has to be cosmetically removed.

The second thing to decide is the location upon which the tattoo art will go. Tattoo parlors can attest to the fact that there are some places on the body that are more sensitive than others. Some areas that are common for sporting tattoo designs are the lower back above the tail bone, the ankle or the arms. Many people decide that a back tattoo is the way for them due to the larger amount of muscle mass. The more muscle mass in the location can often translate into less pain and sensitivity.

A good piece of advice before having the tattoo machine start buzzing away is to go into the tattoo parlors and talk to the artists. A good artist always takes the time to answer any questions the prospective client might have. While at the tattoo parlors take a good look around. Are the premises clean and sanitary? Are the work areas posted with the artists‘ licenses? Are the needles used with the tattoo machine always new and disposed of properly in biohazard containers?

These are all important factors to consider when choosing from tattoo parlors. If there are any questions do not hesitate to bring them to the attention of the artist or owner. Word of mouth is a powerful advertising tool and not all press is good press. If there is any doubt over the health regulations being followed, go with gut instinct and pick another place.

Finally, schedule the appointment so that there is plenty of time without either party feeling rushed. A tattoo done in haste might lead to a costly mistake later both in dollars and pain when it gets removed by laser and tattoo removal is a lengthy process.

All tattoo parlors should hand out care sheets regarding the new tattoo. In order to preserve the colors and life of the tattoo, make sure and follow the instructions specifically. If a problem does arise you should immediately address the issue with the management and artist. The best advice is to take your time and know what you are getting into. A good tattoo should be a thing of beauty and should make you happy.
