Black dyes are the easiest to remove because they absorb all wavelengths. Colors such as green, red and yellow must have selective wavelength used that are specific to their spectrum.

The area can also become much lighter than the surrounding skin resulting in hypopigmentation or its reverse can happen. Hyperpigmentation is where the treatment area is darker than the rest of the skin.
