The Lower Back Tattoo is all the Rage

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

The popularity of tattoos has grown exponentially in recent years and this is obvious by the sight on untold numbers of people sporting all manners of tattoos. Some people prefer tattoos on the arms or the legs while others may prefer back or shoulders and some of the more daring individuals will have tattoos on their scalp or face. So what, ultimately, is the most popular location for a tattoo?

Without a doubt, the most popular tattoo amongst women (young and old) is the lower back tattoo. There are a number of reasons for this popularity, but probably the most popular reason would be the fact that there is a great deal of attractiveness and sensuality associated with the lower back tattoo. In other words, a woman who sports such a tattoo will become increasingly attractive in the eyes of other people. Now, who would not want to look more attractive? That alone provides a great deal behind the popularity of such tattoos!

The Origins of the Lower Back Tattoo

While the lower back tattoo has emerged in popularity over the last few years, it is not a design that is relatively new. In fact, these types of tattoos have been around many hundreds of years and the origins of such tattoos are actually rooted in ancient religion and spirituality rituals.  In ancient times, the lower part of the back was considered an area that is the storage spot for spiritual energy. This is very similar to the notion of chi force and meridian fields that are common to eastern religions. Since the concept of lower back energy is found in certain styles of Yoga it is no surprise that this concept shares traits with other eastern religions since Yoga was quite influential on a number of eastern religions. Ultimately, the lower back became a popular area to tattoo as it was believed the tattooing would help release and harness this internal energy to the person’s full potential. Sadly, much of this history regarding the tattoo has been lost to all but knowledgeable scholars of the subject matter.

Of course, most people are not familiar with the origins and the unique history of these tattoos and that is fine. Knowing the history is not a pre-requisite for getting a lower back tattoo but it does add a unique dimension to the tattoo as well as provides a unique response when asked about why this particular type of tattoo was selected.

What You Should Know When Getting a Koi Tattoo

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Koi tattoos are very in and Zen, but there are some things to think about before getting one of these good luck fish on your skin. After all, you don’t want all that good luck to be ruined by a bad plan.

Color

Do you know what color you would like for your koi tattoo to be? Some people choose a very Yen Yang color selection of black and white. If this is too tame for you, you may want to go with your favorite color. Choose a bright hue if you have a darker skin tone so that it will show up better.

If you are wanting to go more traditional, you may want to choose one of the koi’s natural colors such as white, red, black, yellow, or gold, or a mix of those colors.

It is a good idea to pick colors that go well with your skin tone. If you have yellow undertone in your skin it might be best to go with a gold or yellow and red tattoo. If you have pink to your skin, black, white, red, or blue may be the way to go.

Koi Tattoo Position

Do you know where your koi is going to go? You want to make sure that your koi tattoo will have a place of honor on your body, but you should also make sure it is in a place on your body that you can live with.

For example, if you work at a company that has a strict dress code you may not want a koi tattoo on your hand, where it is hard to cover with clothing.

On the other hand, if you are free to show the little luck fish off, think about putting your koi tattoo on the small of your back, your forearms, around the side of your neck, or swimming around your ankle.

Koi Environments

Now that you’ve thought about what your koi tattoo is going to look like and where it is going to be put, where is it going to live? A koi might look kind of lonely all by itself on your skin. Adding a flowing stream, a calm pool, rocky rapids, or a little friend can make your tattoo really original. Do you have a favorite Japanese symbol? It may look perfect with your koi, too.
Getting a koi tattoo can be a thrill and a meaningful milestone. With enough thought it will be cherished throughout the years and admired by those who see it.

Why Turn Yourself Into A Female Tattoo Gallery

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

It seems more and more girls and women are using their bodies as walking female tattoo galleries.  Perhaps the most famous female tattoo gallery is Angelina Jolie, who has several, especially now that Cher has had a few of hers removed.  And the tattoos aren’t even just obvious ones of designs or symbols — some are walking female tattoo galleries of makeup tattoos.  Yup — tattoos that make you look like you are wearing makeup.  That means tattoo needles in the face.  And they say women are the weaker sex.

Celebrating Milestones

One of the main reasons women get the more traditional body art is to celebrate a major milestone in their lives.  Perhaps they found their “soul mates”.  They get a tattoo.  Then they get divorced.  That’s another tattoo to obscure the first tattoo.  Tattoos also are put on to memorialized dearly departed pets, family members and personal heroes.  There are hundred of 9/11 themed tattoos on the bodies of Americans and those who lost someone during 9/11.  (67 Britons were killed, for example).  Any woman can turn her body into a female tattoo gallery to enshrine her life.

Permanent Makeup

Permanent makeup started as a way for those women with facial injuries to look somewhat normal.  With the tremendous pressure on women’s appearance in the business world, any sign of age or abnormality is frowned upon.  Some women also can’t wear makeup for various allergenic reasons — so instead, they get tattoos of them always looking as if they were just made up.  Permanent make up includes putting on eyebrows (now that the fashion for plucking them out is gone), eyeliner, lip liner or blush.

Temporary Tattoos

One of the most fun things a man or a woman can do is try out temporary tattoos.  You can usually find male and female tattoo galleries of design choices at toy stores, gift shops and department stores.  They are also a good way of experimenting with body art without having to make a sticky commitment.  They only last a week at the most.  You just stick them on like a — well, like a sticker and they soon chip away.

Online Designs

Any tattoo parlor will feature books of their artists’ designs, including female tattoo galleries (which usually means tattoos especially chosen for women).  Remember, that getting a tattoo will take several sessions without any sort of painkiller.  Choose as simple a design as you can.  You’ll need to get a stencil of the tattoo to give to the artist, which he or she will use as an outline.  You can find these usually for free online.

Choosing the Right Fairy for Your Fairy Tattoo

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Fairies aren’t just for Disney anymore! People of all ages and genders are choosing fairies for tattoos and not all of them are sweet and innocent.

To choose the perfect fairy tattoo, you have to know a little about fairies. Below are some fairy facts that you can use to make your fairy tattoo one-of-a-kind.

Good Fairies

If you love all that is good, here are some fairies that may work well for your fairy tattoo.

Áine

Áine is a fairy queen and is the goddess of healing, with the powers of The Spark of Life, vitality, prosperity, protection, and fertility.  She has blond, curly hair, with long white robes.

Wood Sprites

Wood Sprites are fairy elementals live in the oak, hawthorn, and ash trees. They protect the woods, trees, and creatures that live in forests. These fairies would make a nice tattoo for a person who loves nature.

Butterfly Fairies

These are sweet fairies that have wings like butterflies. They are very shy and hide whenever they see a human.

Candelas

These fairies glow with an inner light and can only be spotted right after sunset. They would make a nice tattoo with a sunset hued background.

Bad Fairies

If you want a fairy tattoo that flies straight from the wild side, these fairies may be for you!

The Banshee

This Celtic lass is where many believe some fairies stories were derived from. With long golden hair and a piercing cry, her appearance was said to foretell the death of a family member.

Aeval

A sexier fairy tattoo choice, the raven-haired, black winged fairy Aeval is the judge of a man’s sexual servitude to his wife. She would often lead men from their work and into the forest to her kingdom to be judged.

Boggart

These are angry little house fairies that look a lot like gnomes. They are usually covered in dirt and love to make messes. Boggarts would make a great tattoo for someone who is a mischief maker.

Ankou

Ankou is the fairy grim reaper. He is dark and wears a black robe pulled over his head. He collects the souls of the dead in a cart pulled by a headless horse.

Anthropophagi

Anthropophagi are fairy creatures that eat human flesh. They have no head, their eyes sit on their shoulders, and there mouth is in the middle of their chests.  They are found in works by William Shakespeare. These would make a very dark fairy tattoo.
